Across the North East and North Cumbria our teams are still working to vaccinate people.

The government has accepted Joint Committee Vaccination and Immunisation (JCVI) advice regarding the eligible cohorts for the spring 2026 vaccination programme. The announced and authorised eligible cohorts for COVID-19 vaccination are:

  • Individuals aged 75 years and over
    (including individuals who turn 75 years old by 30 June 2026).
  • Residents in a care home for older adults (as defined through CQC registration), irrespective of the individual’s age.
  • Individuals aged 6 months and over who are immunosuppressed (as defined in the immunosuppression row of tables 3 and/or 4 in the COVID-19 chapter of the Green Book.

Treatments for COVID-19

The NHS offers treatment to people with COVID-19 who are at the highest risk of becoming seriously ill.

Who can have COVID-19 treatment:

  • You're eligible for a COVID-19 treatment assessment, without being admitted to hospital, if all the following apply:
  • you're at highest risk of getting seriously ill from COVID-19
  • you're aged 12 or over
  • you have symptoms of COVID-19
  • you have tested positive for COVID-19

COVID-19 Medicines Delivery Unit

From 1 August, eligible Covid-19 patients in the North East and North Cumbria can access treatment through community pharmacies. As part of the NHS Community Pharmacy Independent Prescribing Pathfinder Programme, pharmacists will assess patients remotely, prescribe suitable medicines, and send prescriptions electronically to be dispensed locally.

For patients who are housebound, or newly severely immunosuppressed, the North East and North Cumbria Integrated Care Board (ICB) can help to arrange a vaccination appointment if it cannot be booked in the usual way.  If a patient's specialist or GP practice has been unable to organise a vaccination for you, please contact:
